credit repair?
Q. does a debit card repair credit in the same way that a secured credit card does? if not, what's the best secured credit card out there (lowest cost, etc.)
Asked by :) - Tue May 2 19:26:05 2006 - - 0 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A debit card does not appear on your credit report. A debit card is linked to your checking account and has a Visa or Mastercard logo so that you can buy things over the Internet, over the phone, or at a store without having to enter a pin number. Secured credit cards are sometimes just a scam, so be careful. The best way to build credit is to get a savings or CD secured loan through a bank.

How fast can credit repair be done?
Q. I want to repair my credit quickly, like within 6-12 months have everything cleaned up and improved scores. Is this possible? How likely? Thanks.
Asked by LymeW - Sat Sep 6 14:08:53 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no fast way to do this. If you have bad credit it takes years to clean up. A bankruptcy 7-10 years. Bad payments on credit cards 2-3 years. 6-12 months is an unreasonable expectation. A good rule of thumb is figure it will take about as long to get out of bad credit reporting as it did to get you into it. Assuming you continue to pay all your bills on time.

Where can I get a personal loan for credit repair?
Q. I would like a reputible company, I am trying to repair my credit for a home loan.
Asked by Panda - Tue Dec 20 20:24:22 2005 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you get a personal loan from a local bank and make your payments on time your credit score would go up over time. If you already have bad credit consider a secured loan (requires collateral of some sort). However, the positive factors from this loan would take some time (6 months to a year) to actually improve your credit score. If you are just thinking of getting a loan for quick improvement then do not do it, as getting a personal loan right before applying for a home loan might show that you are over extended.

Q. Trying to repair my credit,I do not want to pay someone to do this. What is the best way to do this, and where do I start?
Asked by sexysandor - Sat Mar 3 23:13:21 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You might start by doing as much reading as you can on some of the sites listed in my profile. Reading and understanding the FDCPA, FCRA, etc. can be a bit hard at first, especially the FCRA, but it does get easier. Kudo's to you for wanting to repair your credit yourself instead of paying someone else to do it. There are a few great "free" do it yourself credit repair sites on the web that have many active members. Many members on those sites have been there and done that. (I prefer the one listed in my profile the most) Never pay a site for information you can find for free.

Q. Im looking for a credit repair company to help repair my credit and raise my credit score. There are many companies online but I want to choose a reputable company and do not know how to make sure they are legitimately a good company. Any suggestions?
Asked by sasha - Tue Jan 12 16:39:03 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Forget credit repair companies. Most are pure scam. Even the legit ones only do what you can easily do yourself. There are no special letters or secret procedures to clean up your credit. Get a copy of your credit report (AnnualCreditReport.com). If there are errors, dispute them with the credit bureau. Legitimate negative items age off your credit report 7-1/2 years from the date of first deficiency. The older the item, the less impact on your score. If any of your derogatory items are single entry items, like medical or utility bills, you can try to negotiate pay for delete agreements (you pay $x and they remove the item) with the collection agencies. This doens't work for regularly reported items like credit cards and… [cont.]

A. Pick up a copy of "Financial Peace" by Dave Ramsey at the book store or visit his website. He's the best. There is no need to pay somebody money you don't have to fix the problems you have because of no money. You can do it on your own.

A. I tried on my own and got 3 things off. Then signed up with Lexington Law for a small monthly fee and they got another 3 things off. I only used them for 3 months because I was tired of paying them. It was a mistake I should have at least stayed 6 months. I'm not sure what they do differently because what they got off, I'd already tried and failed.

A. No. First, it takes 7-10 years to repair credit safely. The only thing that you can do to credit quickly is to make it worse. Second, I am not aware of any reputable credit repair companies. I can tell you that any company that guarantees that they will repair your credit quickly is not reputable and is not safe.

A. Many of these companies do not offer guarantees on their services as its almost impossible to guarantee that they will improve someone's credit. Unfortunately paying someone for a service is taking a chance. You pay your barber for a haircut in hopes that he/she will provide you with a nice looking hair cut. You pay a lawn care service in hopes that they will improve your lawn care or take care of your lawn better than yourself. Unfortunately all service companies do not always provide the type of service you are looking for. If you can prove that the credit repair company did little to nothing to improve your credit you may have a case, but if they can show documented proof that they indeed did do what they were supposed to and it just… [cont.]

A. I strongly believe that no person should pay for help in fixing their credit. If you already have recent copies of your credit reports and the money to begin paying on your bills, all you need is to do some research on how to negotiate with your creditors. I run a website that gives free advice on how to do this. You can find a link to it in my profile. You can also search the web for more information if you like. Good luck!

A. You may receive an offer from a company that claims it can fix your bad credit rating. The truth is if the credit bureaus have accurate information, there s nothing you or anyone else can do to quickly improve your score if you haven t managed your debts well in the past. (The only way to influence your score is to start managing your debt wisely.) And if there are errors in your file, you can contact the bureaus directly -- you don t need to pay someone else to do it. The three major bureaus have instructions on how to do this on their Web sites. So in summation it means, they take your money and in the long run do really nothing. They will however lower your score even more by letting debts go to collections to negotiate a lower… [cont.]
