Q. I am very interested in the concept of mindfulness and therapy that teaches present-centered thinking, meditation, positive thinking, etc...I would like to be a counselor and am planning on getting my masters soon. A. Hello, try to find more about person centered psychotherapy( Carl Rogers) - is a non directive method, based very much on "here" and"now"...I think is very close to what you are looking for. I am now in a 4 years postgraduate training and I am very enthusiastic about it. monica

What do you think about a career in addiction counseling?
Q. Do you think there will be alot of job opportunites in 4 years. What about the salary. I am also considering community counseling and family counseling.

A. I think that is a very needed career, and that those who choose it are very unselfish. There will be job opportunities all over the place. The salaries vary, depending on where you work, where you live, and the position you take. Community counseling and family counseling are also careers that will be around for a long time. Again, the salaries will vary. You do realize that many jobs in these fields require a minimum of a masters degree--and in some places even a PhD. I wish you well. You are seeking to help people, and that is the best goal one can have.

what can i expect from premarital counseling in a united methodist church?
Q. i am a member of a UM church but my husband-to-be is not (he is a member of an independent church but has been attending my Methodist church with me for the past 2 months), but i am going to be married in a different United Methodist Church in my hometown. what should i expect? will there be any fees and how many sessions should i have to attend? does this differ from church to church or is there a standard? also, the wedding is 10 months from now - when should we start the counseling?

A. Every local church does this differently. Ask them.
